Cultural activities in the MRN

The cultural range in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region is very large and varied. Theatre, film, music, art and much more can be experienced in the large and small towns and villages of the region. For example, the well-known Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen or the Theater Heidelberg offer a special theatre experience, but there are also many smaller theatres and theatre groups.

Film art is represented by two major festivals: the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg and the Festival of German Film in Ludwigshafen. Many other festivals, cinema centres, open-air cinemas and film events at other locations let you enjoy films and movies on the big screen.

Kunsthalle Mannheim and Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen are lighthouses of the fine arts, but the many smaller art museums, art associations and galleries guarantee an exciting art experience in the entire region.

Important historical sites tell the region's rich history, e.g. Hambach Castle near Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Schwetzingen Palace and Heidelberg Castle, the cathedrals of Speyer and Worms or the Limes.

Technoseum Mannheim and the Technik Museums in Speyer and Sinsheim present historical and current technical developments. Planetarium Mannheim at Luisenpark offers a comfortable and interesting view into space.

The music scene of the region has an incredible amount to offer in classical music, jazz and pop and beyond. Concerts by Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and other renowned classical orchestras, the famous jazz musicians and pop musicians, starting with the Söhne Mannheims, festivals such as the Maifeld Derby Festival in Mannheim offer a musical experience for every taste. Mannheim is the "UNESCO City of Music" with the Popakademie and the Musikhochschule and is the undisputed centre of a musical region.

A culture magazine of the metropolitan region provides information about festivals, museums and castles.

Film lovers will find a cinema in their vicinity at kino-zeit.de. Kultur im Kreis gives you a good overview for art, music, and literature in the Rhine-Neckar region.
