Children and youths have the right to participate as well. Even if you do not have a lot of money, your children are able to take part in sports activities and enjoy having a meal with other children as well. That is what the Bildungspacket (education package) is for. This package is for every child and youth up to the age of 25 years who goes to school and does not draw a salary for their vocational training.

Who is eligible to receive the benefit?

Your children have the right to get the education package if your family receives

•Unemployment benefits II (job center) or income support,

•Social welfare or asylum seeker assistance,

•Housing benefits or supplementary child benefit.

Many things get covered with the education package

1.Excursions (kindergarten and school)
Your child can go on to a trip with his kindergarten or school. This means that every child can visit a museum, theater or park. The kindergarten or school has to fill in the following form:Excursion certificate

2. School trips for several days
The school sometimes takes the children on a school trip for several days which can get expensive. The education package covers these costs as well. The school has to fill in the following application form: School trip certificate

3. School supplies
Every year, each child receives EUR 100. This benefit is not for school books, but for notebooks, pencils and water colors. You will get EUR 70 in August and EUR 30 in February. If you already receive unemployment benefit II (job center) then you do not need to fill in an application again. You will receive the benefits from the job center automatically.

4. Transportation costs for pupils
Pupils can get a subsidy for the cost of their tickets if they have to take the train or bus to school. Usually, the Maxx-Ticket is for all pupils up to the 10th grade which will be refunded by the district or city.

5. Private tutoring
Does your child have difficulties in school and might have to repeat the same class again? If so, your child can get private tutoring. The school has to fill in the following application form: Certificate for private tutoring

6. Eating school lunch at school, day nursery, after school center or child day care
You are eligible to receive a subsidy if your child eats lunch at school, day nursery, after school center or at the child day care. But for every meal, you need to pay EUR 1.

7. Culture, sport and spare time

Children and youths up to the age of 18 are able to receive EUR 10 monthly (EUR 120 per year). This gives your children the opportunity of taking music lessons or being a member of a sports club. Besides that, children can also take your children to a holiday camp during their school vacation. Application for the services of Bildung und Teilhabe (education package) (BuT-Antrag)

You have to submit an application for the services provided by the education package which will allow you and your children to receive the benefit from the education package. Therefore, please fill in the following application form: Application for the services of the education package

If you already receive either unemployment benefits II or income support, you must submit your application to your responsible job center.

But if you already get social welfare, asylum seeker assistance, housing benefits or supplementary child benefit, then please go to the city hall. There, you will get the right address for your application.
