Sports

There are many active sportsmen and sportswomen in Germany, from childhood to senior age. The range of sports on offer is very wide, from the most popular sport, football, to sports that are little known in Germany, such as curling, lacrosse, cricket or cycling ball.

Many sports fields are open to the public, for example in parks. Traditionally, sport is practised in sports clubs, and you usually have to become a member to do so. Those who go swimming in swimming pools usually have to pay an entrance fee. In order to visit a gym or sports studio, you often have to sign a contract and pay a monthly fee.

Sports Clubs

There are sports clubs in every town. Often there are many, with different sport offers. The clubs have different conditions for membership and demand different membership fees. Sometimes there are free opportunities to get to know a sport or a club before you decide to become a member. Sometimes refugees or people with low incomes get a free or particularly favorable possibility to go in for sport in the association. Alvivi has a page with links to clubs in many places in the region.

Sport studios

In a gym, also called a fitness center, fitness center or sports studio, you will find various equipment for training strength or endurance. Often courses for aerobics, indoorcycling or similar are offered. Sauna or wellness areas are also often connected. For a fee the visitor can use the equipment, the service and the classes of the fitness studios. Fitness studios offer an entertaining, convivial form of fitness training or bodybuilding outside sports clubs. However, there are also gyms run by sports clubs. There are studios in many places. Swimming pools

In summer, people go to lakes and rivers in the region to swim and to relax. Visiting swimming pools costs money, but you can be sure that the water is clean and that pool attendants are nearby to help, for example, if someone is in danger in the water. In lakes and rivers it is sometimes dangerous to swim. There are always accidents and every summer people drown because they are careless or because they have drunk alcohol, for example. In the rivers, bathing is partly forbidden because they are dirty or because there are special dangers. Unfortunately, there is no good overview of all swimming pools (indoor, outdoor and combined) in our region. With "Swimming pool" (Schwimmbad) and the name of your city, you can find the nearest swimming pools and their opening hours via search engines.

Cricket and other rare sports

Cricket is an example of a sport that is a national sport in many countries (for example Afghanistan and Pakistan) but little known in Germany. Nevertheless, it is worth looking for possibilities where you can play cricket.Cricket is a ball game with two teams. It's a duel between the thrower (bowler) and the batsman. The bowler tries to get the batsman to make a mistake so that he is eliminated, the batsman tries to hit the ball away to score points (runs). The bowler is assisted by the other field players who try to get the ball back as quickly as possible.

Cricket courts and clubs can be found, for example, in

Mannheim,

Heidelberg,

Wiesloch and

Bad Dürkheim.

Since it is possible that other clubs will be added, it is also worthwhile to search here with the help of a search engine.

Another example is wrestling. Wrestling is a traditional sport in Germany, but it is no longer very popular. There are many wrestling sports clubs, some of which are top in Germany. Many of these clubs are happy about new active players who make wrestling more popular again.
